- I am releasing these programs and their source to the Public Domain to assist
- both those individuals who would: 1) would like to boot their system from
- either BATCH file or a high level language program, 2) would like to know how
- to code the boot code in assembler language (I have seen a lot of assembler
- source code which contains the boot code encoded as string constants because
- the author did not know how to code the instructions in assembly.)
-
- This library contains two programs: REBOOT.COM and REIPL.COM, and their
- source: REBOOT.ASM and REIPL.ASM. These programs have been tested on a
- 3270-PC, 3270-AT, XT, XT/370, AT, and AT/370, with DOS 2.1, 3.0, and 3.1.
- Furthermore, DOS was tested on the 3270-PC and 3270-AT both with and without
- the following IBM Control Programs: CP 1.2, 1.22, and 2.0.
-
- These programs are dependent on the BIOS ROM. Therefore, these programs should
- be able to execute on any PC which can run either MS-DOS or PC-DOS.
-
- Invoking REIPL.COM will cause your PC to reboot as though the PC has just been
- powered on. A memory check will be performed before DOS will be loaded.
-
- Invoking REBOOT.COM will cause your PC to reboot without a memory check. This
- is especially useful if you wish to get rid of a device driver or a Control
- Program (e.g. CP 1.2) which installs itself beneath DOS, since
- it may not be possible to remove this program by depressing Ctl-Alt-Del.
